HOUSEHOLD EFFECTS CONTAINER INVESTIGATION.

Abstract

A number of different types of storage and shipping household goods containers are currently in use by the Navy. These containers have a design loading of 1500 to 2500 lbs. and their approximate sizes are 7-1/2 to 8 ft. long by 3-1/2 ft. wide by 6 ft. high. The types used for shipping are, chiefly, the nailed wood or wood-cleated plywood crate; the bolted, wood-cleated plywood crate; and, lately, the wood-cleated plywood crate with a patented 'Auto-Stack' system, which employs short lengths of steel strapping as a closure device.
