ROLE OF THE NETWORK FORMER IN SEMICONDUCTING OXIDE GLASSES.

Abstract

Glasses of the systems CaO.B2O3.V2O5 and CaO.P2O5.V2O5 have been prepared and their electrical properties studied. Under identical melting conditions the V5+/V4+ ratio for the borate glasses are much higher than that for the phosphates. The resistivity of the former are also much larger than the latter. However, for similar compositions and V5+/V4+ ratios, the borate glasses still have consistently higher resistivity. The network former thus has a real effect on the electrical properties of semiconducting oxide glasses. (Author)
