Abstract

The Navy has initiated a program of investigation into shipping damages occurring during rail transportation. The overall purpose of this program is the reduction of damage claims and shipping costs by the development of improved carloading methods, techniques, and the testing of lightweight packages intended to reduce transportation charges assessed on tare weight.
