DEVELOPMENT OF MECHANIZED LOADING REFRIGERATOR CARS.

Abstract

A study was undertaken to provide information upon the practicability of the development of refrigerator car floor racks of sufficient strength and proper design to permit the loading and unloading of palletized unit loads of fresh and frozen provisions with mechanized equipment. As a result of the tests it was found that the most serious remaining problems complicating such movements are the restrictions of the width and height of the car doors and the variations in height from the track to the refrigerator car door sills found to exist among succeeding cars.
