THE USE OF GLUE IN THE FORMATION OF UNIT LOADS.

Abstract

A year of research on the subject of glued unit loading resulted in the successful rail shipment of glued loads of fibreboard containers, nailed wood boxes, wirebound boxes, and paper and cloth bags. Reports from overseas indicate that glued unit loads of fibreboard containers and 50 lb. multiwall paper bags are capable of withstanding shiploading operations and overseas shipment. Methods of applying adhesives to containers were developed which require a minimum of time, equipment and instruction to employees. Devices for glue application were approved.
