AN ARTILLERY SIMULATOR FOR FUZE EVALUATION

Abstract

A simulator has been constructed at the Harry Diamond Laboratories for testing fuzes in an environment that provides linear and angular accelerations simultaneously as they are applied in rifled artillery weaponry. Electrical interrogation of the fuze is made during this time and subsequently while the angular velocity is maintained. This report contains a description of the device and a discussion of certain specific aspects of performance. It is meant to be an introduction to the technique employed, and a guide for future research and development. The performance, some results obtained, and the manner in which the simulation may be improved are described.
