DETERMINATION OF THE THREE CONVERSION COEFFICIENTS IN THE DECAY OF AU198 WITH SEMICONDUCTOR COUNTERS,

Abstract

A set-up for determining conversion coefficients by means of different arrangements with semiconductor detectors (both lithium-drifted silicon and germanium) and scintillation counters is presented. The conversion coefficients corresponding to the three transitions in Hg198 were measured. 'Singles' electron conversion and gamma-ray spectra were recorded deriving the value of the conversion coefficient for the 1.083-MeV transition, taking into account the value obtained for that of the 0.412-MeV transition. Beta continuum-electron conversion coincidences have been performed with two lithium-drifted silicon detectors and the K-conversion coefficient for the latter transition was obtained. Gamma-gamma coincidences with a lithium-drifted germanium detector and a conventional scintillation counter were done, yielding the value of the K-conversion coefficient for the 0.671-MeV transition.
