DEVIATIONS FROM WAGE-FRINGE STANDARDS,

Abstract

It is the purpose of this paper to examine the circumstances and forms of adjustment to the particular needs of (1) the individual plant or company within a bargaining unit and (2) the plant or company subject to a strong, well-defined wage pattern. Particular attention is focused on the following dilemma: plant survival versus wage uniformity. When both are unobtainable, unions are forced to make a sometimes agonizing choice. Their responses will be analyzed through a survey of the literature on 'crises bargaining.'
