PRESSURE AND EROSION IN REGION OF SEPARATION CAVITATION OF A ROUND PROFILE,

Abstract

The experiment on the investigation of cavitational erosion of hydraulic machines and installations shows that parts of structures located in a flow with separation, i. e., those whose border on a region of separation cavitation which usually appear in a vortex, flows after bluff bodies are damaged by erosion. It follows from this that in order to understand the mechanism of cavitational destruction, it is necessary to investigate the phenomenon of cavitation and its erosion action on simple objects located in a flow with separation, which permits a many-sided study of the phenomenon. A kinematic structure of separation cavitation was investigated by the people concerned in the example of cavitation after a round profile. Results of experiments on pressure change in the region of separation cavitation after a round profile are reported along with erosion experiments which appear after a model of a profile on a wall adjacent to its end.
