TV-36 VHF AND TU-9 UHF 50-WATT TRANSMITTERS.

Abstract

Communication transmitters designated as TV-36 and TU-9 were designed, developed, and are currently being produced for Federal Aviation Agency use in ground station applications. The TV-36 and TU-9 Transmitters operate in the frequency bands of 118 mc to 136 mc and 225 mc to 400 mc, respectively, and provide 50 watts of amplitude-modulated output. Maximum interchangeability was achieved in these units. A vhf transmitter may be converted to a uhf transmitter by simple changes, such as replacing the exciter module and low-pass filter and resetting the PA bandswitch. Except for the exciter module, all circuitry is identical in each transmitter. Semiconductor circuitry has been used throughout the low-level stages and power supplies. Tubes are used only in the driver and power amplifiers. Linear operation is used in the power amplifier to achieve good intertransmitter intermodulation performance. A unique 2-band transmission cavity provides a high-Q output network for the linear power amplifier. Carefully designed envelope feedback and agc circuits keep modulation distortion low and power output constant. These transmitters are designed to meet Specifications FAA-E-2099 and FAA-E-2124.
