ON THE ELASTIC BUCKLING AND BENDING OF SANDWICH PLATES.

Abstract

A governing differential equation for the buckling and bending of sandwich plates with orthotropic cores is derived from a system of differential equations which is developed by means of a variational theorem. Solution of this resultant equation may be readily obtained through the use of the techniques that have been applied in the classical theory of plates. An example in which three boundary conditions at each edge of the plate are satisfied is presented for illustrative purposes. Curves of buckling coefficients are shown in figures. (Author)
