THE BEHAVIOR OF TANDEM AND PARALLEL DETECTOR COILS OF MAGNETIC GRADIOMETERS IN THE FIELD OF A MAGNETIC DIPOLE,

Abstract

Expressions for the signals from tandem and parallel detector coils of 'magnetic gradiometers' in the field of a magnetic dipole are derived and compared with experiment. The maximum and minimum signals are theoretically and experimentally examined and results are shown of calculations of the possible paths one can follow to obtain maximum and minimum signals. The significance of measurements made by the detector coil configurations is discussed in conclusion. (Author)
