INVESTMENT CAST COMPONENTS FOR SPIW.

Abstract

An investigation was conducted to determine the feasibility of using investment cast components for the Special Purpose Infantry Weapon (SPIW). Suitably shaped components for the process were investment-cast, machined, and heat-treated for service tests. Results of these tests show that the service life of the cast components is equal to, or superior to, that of the wrought components. Investment casting is an efficient and economical method of fabricating the selected components. (Author)
