SOME RESULTS OF OBSERVATIONS OF THE SOLAR CORONA MADE WITHOUT AN ECLIPSE AND THE OUTLOOK FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF A CORONAL OBSERVATION STATION

Abstract

A Lyot optical system was modified to permit the satisfactory recording of coronagraphs with the aid of an eclipse. Some of the results obtained with this instrument are presented and discussed. The paucity of good observational periods prompted an investigation of the Great Alma-Alta Lake region as a possible site for a coronal station. The advantages of the area and the objectives of such a station are outlined.
