METHODS OF PRODUCTION AND THE PROPERTIES OF GRAFTED AND BLOCK POLYMERS,

Abstract

The data reviewed in this survey on the methods of synthesizing graft- and block-copolymers, and on the possibilities of the practical application thereof on the basis of combining in these polymers of large segments of homopolymers, point to the wide scope of operations carried out in this field outside the Soviet Union. A study of graft- and block-copolymers offers excellent prospects in view of the wide range of application of these polymers in a great number of industries, first of all in the production of synthetic rubbers with valuable mechanical properties and of synthetic fibers with high melting points and good textile characteristics. The available data indicate that some types of graft- and block-polymers are in production on a commercial scale. Nevertheless, no data concerning commercial polymers and the complex of their physico-mechanical properties may be found in literature. A large portion of the published papers are devoted to the synthetic method. The number of articles which describe the properties of graft- and block-copolymers is very limited. (Author)
