SERPENTINITES FROM THE CREST OF THE ARABIAN-INDIAN (CARLSBERG) RIDGE,

Abstract

On the thirty-third voyage of the expeditionary vessel Vitiaz' of the Institute of Oceanology, Academy of Sciences of the USSR, a multidisciplinary program of marine geological studies was carried out in the northern and central parts of the Indian Ocean, including the collection of samples from the underlying rocks of the sea floor. In the course of this work fragments of serpentinites were obtained, at one spot, from the surface of the Arabian-Indian Ridge (in addition to numerous basalt samples). (Author)
