DIVERSITY COMBINING IN THE AN/UCC-1C(V).

Abstract

The diversity combining in the AN/UCC-1C(V) microelectronic FSK frequency division multiplex equipment is shown to be inadequate under simulated, periodic fading conditions. Long time constants in the limiter circuitry prevent the discriminator output from decreasing equally with the input signal under relatively slow fading conditions. Under static, high S/N conditions the combining varies between equal gain and ratio squared when the amplitude of the input signals are within 6 db of each other. With an 8 to 10 db differential, the smaller signal does not contribute to the combined discriminator output. Improvement in the performance of the equipment under simulated fading conditions can be obtained by reducing the time constants in the AGC amplifier and the limiter circuit. Extension of this work is planned to cover other fading conditions. (Author)
