DROPLET VAPORIZATION WITH LIMITING HEAT TRANSFER FROM THE CARRIER GAS.

Abstract

A special case of droplet vaporization is considered in which the evaporation process is limited by the rate of heat transfer from the carrier gas to the droplet. As the droplet vaporizes, it partially or completely saturates the environment; this saturation effect then reduces the instantaneous vaporization rate. With the restriction of small total droplet mass per unit mass of carrier gas, a first order, non-linear, ordinary differential equation is found to describe the vaporization process. One constant parameter C appears in the vaporization equation. Special values of C are considered which permit integration in closed form. A numerical example of some typical vaporization times is also included. (Author)
