DOVE DATA STORAGE AND RETRIEVAL SYSTEM.

Abstract

This effort was conducted with discretionary funds as a six-month technical program demonstrating the feasibility of a fully automated Dove Data Storage and Retrieval System. This electronic system makes possible high-speed and high-density storage (and subsequent retrieval) of digital information on recording media such as thin metallic foils or semi-conductor films. The heart of the system is an electron beam tube which produces a spot size of less than five microns at the recording surface by magnetically focusing the beam. Electrostatic deflection is employed to position the beam wherever required. High-speed accessibility for read-out operation can be accomplished by special circuitry. The device is a rugged and completely demountable unit.
