MICROMINIATURE MONOLITHIC CROSSPOINT INTERCONNECTIONS.

Abstract

The report describes the circuit and the fabrication aspects of the microminiature monolithic crosspoints. Control circuits using DC amplifiers, logic gates, or both are discussed to ascertain the operating conditions of the crosspoints and the power required per crosspoint. Drive voltage necessary as a function of the shunt resistance and the diode forward resistance is determined, so that the proper control elements can be chosen. Insertion loss as a function of the shunt resistance and the diode forward resistance is also determined, so that line amplifiers with adequate gain may be used to compensate for the insertion loss of any transmission path. The characteristics of the glass-embedded diodes has been measured and found satisfactory. The glass surface condition has been adequately prepared for deposition of uniform resistors. The reasons for using the nichrome resistors instead of the Pt-Rh resistors for the crosspoints are given, and results of the uniformity of the nichrome resistors are presented. Data on the Type B crosspoints fabricated and their electrical characteristics are also given. (Author)
