NEWS IN MACHINE LUBRICANTS (CHAPTER IV AND V),

Abstract

Limiting cases of a two-dimensional elasto-hydrodynamic problem for two cylinders with parallel generatrices are analyzed. The values are found for finite extension of a lubricating layer at which the oil flow deviates scarcely from a plane and the influence of compressibility of the lubricant and heat emission in the lubricating layer on its supporting power and pressure distribution in it is analyzed. The effect of a change is viscosity with the change in temperature on an adiabatic flow of an incompressible lubricant is examined. Experiments with small loads on cylinders are described. The above-mentioned problem is also analyzed for the case of local contact between generatrices and a method is given to solve a problem concerned with isothermal flow of a lubricant and relative slip of an elastic cylinder for small values of rigidity numbers. An extensive bibliography is included of the 1961 literature on theory and calculations of thrust bearings, and on lubricants.
