CHARACTERISTICS OF A 20-KW, LIQUID-COOLED, XENON ARC SEARCHLIGHT.

Abstract

A searchlight was developed using a 20-kw, compact, xenon arc lamp whose electrodes were internally water cooled. The procedure consisted of modifying a housing designed for a carbon arc lamp and mounting the xenon arc lamp coaxially. The performance of the experimental searchlight was measured, and it was found to exceed that of the carbon arc lamp searchlight in almost all desired categories. It is expected that, with future engineering and final development, this searchlight will eventually replace the carbon arc searchlight. (Author)
