OUTLINE OF AN INFORMATION PROCESSING MODEL FOR SIMULATING ONE KIND OF PROBLEM SOLVING.

Abstract

The report presents a description of an information processing model designed to simulate a particular kind of problem solving behavior. The model is presented as a computer program written in IPL-V. The report is divided into four sections. The first section is a summary of the original experiment which led to the development of the model; it contains a description of the procedure, a summary of the data, and a general characterization of Ss' typical problem-solving behavior. The second section presents the model and explains its operations; it also includes a description of a detailed example of the model's solution to a typical problem. The third deals with an extension of the model which enables it to solve a class of very complex problems. Finally the appendices, which comprise the fourth section, present detailed information on the organization of the model's subroutines, data lists, and storage cells. (Author)
