FLUORESCENCE MICROSCOPY FOR THE IN VITRO STUDY OF THE INTRACELLULAR DIGESTION PROCESS IN PHAGOCYTIZED BACTERIA
Abstract
Fluorescence microscopy was used successfully for the in vitro study of the intracellular digestion of phagocytized bacteria. During fluorochroming with acridine orange it was possible to observe changes in the brightness and color of fluorescence of phagocytized bacteria. These changes were recorded (in a black-white image) with the help of a fluorescence cinemicrography technique. One of the possible reasons for changes in the brightness and color of fluorescence of phagocytized bacteria is the enzymatic destruction of high molecular biopolymers (proteins, nucleoproteins).
