THE PRINCIPLE OF SAINT-VENANT IN LINEAR AND NONLINEAR PLANE ELASTICITY.

Abstract

A long thin two-dimensional body, which the self-equilibrated loadings on its short ends and is unstressed on its long sides is considered. Under the assumption that the first four derivatives of the displacement are sufficiently small, it is shown that the strain at any point decays exponentially with its distance from the ends.
