GRAVITY ANOMALIES IN THE GRAAFF-HUNTER REDUCTION AND CRUSTAL ISOSTASY, TRANSBAIKALIA,
Abstract
On the basis of Graaff-Hunter anomalies the author establishes the degree of isostatic compensation of the Baikal and Transbaikalian regions and describes the relation of anomalies to seismicity and to some specific features of tectonic development. He points out that the Transbaikal territory is mainly in isostatic equilibrium, but in the Baikal region there exists an area of substantially uncompensated Cenozoic depressions. On the basis of the differences between Mesozoic and Cenozoic depressions as manifested in the Graaff-Hunter and Bouguer anomalies the author offers a scheme for the development of the depressions and indicates the role of isostatic forces in the process.
