AUTOMATIC LANDING - RECENT R.A.E. CONTRIBUTIONS.

Abstract

The paper presents a brief review of the more important R.A.E. work on automatic landing during the last four years. Work on roll-out and taxying problems in low visibility and on the pilot's role in an automatic landing are mentioned briefly; but the paper dwells particularly on some lessons learned while verifying that the I.L.S. could be used for landing, and on the implications of the safety target that must be met before blind automatic landing becomes a commercial reality.
