DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION OF A LASER RAMAN SPECTROPHOTOMETER,

Abstract

A summary of the considerations involved in the design and construction of a laser Raman spectrophotometer is presented. The instrument consists of a Spectra-Physics Model 125 He-Ne gas laser excitation source which emits more than 80 mw of power at 6328A, a Spex Model 1400 double monochromator, a cooled Hammamatsu R-136 photomultiplier, and appropriate optics and electronics. Representative Raman spectra are shown, and programs used to obtain wavelength conversion and instrumental dispersion and calibration characteristics are provided. (Author)
