AREAS OF NORTH PACIFIC OCEAN WITH UNIFORM CORRECTIONS FOR SOUND VELOCITY,

Abstract

A new chart of the North Pacific showing areas homogeneous in respect to echo-sounding is discussed. Tables of vertical sound velocities and depth corrections (assuming the constant velocity as 1500 m/sec) were prepared for each area. New salinity and temperature data obtained in summer and new charts of water circulation and structure were used. The new chart and the tables of sound velocities are as simple as Matthews' chart and can be used for the construction of charts, but the new chart presents a closer approach to real oceanic conditions.
