INVESTIGATION OF NUMERICAL TECHNIQUES AS APPLIED TO DIGITAL FLIGHT CONTROL SYSTEMS.

Abstract

The report describes analytical techniques applicable to the design of on-line digital control systems and analysis of real-time hybrid simulations. Emphasis is placed on an operational mathematics approach using state variables and signal flow mapping techniques to facilitate stability analysis and accurate interpretation of results in terms of concepts familiar to Control Engineers. Digital simulation of a fourth-order pitch rate flight control system is included. A technique for analysis of nonlinear digital systems employing Lyapunov's Second Method is presented. Predictor-corrector methods for first-order and higher-order differential equations are discussed. Error analysis techniques are included with special attention given to quantization errors. A system synthesis technique employing constraint equations for determination of control system design parameter values is developed. (Author)
