CORRELATION BETWEEN IAE AND RYDER GEAR AND LUBRICANT TEST MACHINES.

Abstract

The Ryder and Institute of Automotive Engineers gear and lubricant test machines are used for load-carrying tests of steam turbine oils. Poor correlation of the test values is sometimes found between these machines. This lack of correlation can be a barrier to knowledge of the interchangeability of turbine oils among the navies using these machines. This report reviews experience in correlation efforts and discusses the possibility of achieving better correlation by changes in gears and test conditions. This achievement appears to have a low probability for success. An alternative to test machine correlation is presented. (Author)
