SUN 143-120. Prediction of Mark 43 Ballistic Performance from Process Control Data.

Abstract

Mathematical equations have been derived to predict ballistic performance of the Mark 43, Mod. 1 propellant grain prior to ballistic testing of an acceptance sample from the process population. These equations have proven to be a useful tool in evaluating trends in ballistic performance and dictating changes in process variables to control these trends. Additional work is being done to up-date and refine the existing equations. Exploratory work is planned to determine changes in the acquisition of in-process data which would make predictions possible at a much earlier stage of production. (Author)
