DEMAND ANALYSIS FOR AIR TRAVEL BY SUPERSONIC TRANSPORT. VOLUME II. APPENDIXES,
Abstract
The Report projects to 1990 the potential demand for a US SST in competition with the British-French Concorde, and examines the effects on the US balance of payments of these projections and the resulting international fleet mixes. The analysis is in three parts: (1) Passenger demand is projected by first estimating the total demand for air travel in terms of revenue passenger miles and then the extent of passenger preference for supersonic over subsonic travel. (2) Passenger demand is converted into aircraft demand and fleet mixes under various assumptions as to boom restriction, passenger valuation of travel time, and fares; and international fleet mixes are determined. (3) The US balance-of-payments implications of these aircraft and travel demands are then projected. Results are, in general, presented for a variety of conditions intended to bracket the range of possibilities. These results are given on two volumes. The present volume (Volume II) contains the appendixes to the main volume (Volume I, AD-652 309).
