BUILDING WOOD TOWING MODELS AT THE U. S. EXPERIMENTAL MODEL BASIN, WASHINGTON.

Abstract

The building of wood towing models at Washington has been considerably simplified. The model block is now built up very nearly to size, the section templates and 'former model' are no longer made or used, and the block is now cut to shape in one operation in a profiling machine, working directly from two wood templates upon which the forebody and afterbody sections are laid out full size. The adoption of these and other methods has reduced costs, increased available working space in the model shop and decreased the time required for building models. (Author)
