DEEP-TOWED BATHYMETRIC SYSTEM.

Abstract

A low cost deep-towed bathymetric system that will give micro-bathymetry and sub-bottom profiling is described. A vehicle containing transducer, power supplies, and an amplifier is towed at constant depth within about 30 fathoms of the bottom with the return transducer signals being telemetered up the armored coaxial tow cable for recording at the surface. The results appear to be better than those obtained with conventional shipboard bathymetric systems. (Author)
