Abstract

Optimum compositions of ternary alloys of rhenium with tungsten and molybdenum are developed. With the increase of rhenium content in alloys with constant ratios of tungsten and molybdenum, plastic and strength characteristics are improved. Mechanical properties of alloys were investigated on 70-75g ingots smelted in an arc furnace with a nonconsumable tungsten electrode in an atmsophere of purified argon. The changes in hardness and in grain size, and also certain characteristic microstructures of ternary alloys after recrystallization annealing are shown in figures and investigated. Temperature of transition from plastic to brittle state was discussed. The article discusses alloying of molybdenum welds with rhenium in order to increase their plastic properties. Methods of welding, type of material used, type of filler material, and welding conditions were discussed. Results of microstructural analysis, change of hardness, and strength and plastic properties were brought out. (Author)
