DESIGN STUDIES ON A GAS-BEARING GYROSCOPE WITH PNEUMATIC PICK-OFF.

Abstract

A report is made of design studies of a gas-bearing gyro with a pneumatic pick-off which senses the direction between the missile axis and the spin-axis of the gyro wheel and actuates an all-fluid control to maintain the course of the missile. The work effort was in three functional areas of the proposed gyro. (a) High 'G' spherical gas bearing, (b) Quick response, high gain-factor pneumatic pick-off, (c) Self-aligning, high acceleration turbine drive.
