THE USE OF TESTING IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF MILITARY INFORMATION SYSTEMS THROUGH FIELD EXPERIMENTATION,

Abstract

The report discusses the role of testing in the development of military information systems in which an experimental system is first developed in the field and then used for further experimentation to obtain data to assist in establishing a world wide system. The salient differences in these two phases of the overall program are first discussed. Categories of testing are then described and the development of meaningful objectives and contents of tests for each category given proceeding from analyses of ultimate system goals to planning of detailed tests related to system efficiency. Criteria related to information system performance to measure system efficiency are described and possible measurements suggested.
