CRYSTALLOGRAPHIC AND MAGNETIC INVESTIGATION OF THE RARE EARTH-COBALT COMPOUNDS R2CO17.

Abstract

A series of new compounds corresponding to the formula R2Co17, where R represents Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, Lu and Y, was prepared. Magnetic measurements showed that about one half of the R2Co17 compounds are ferrimagnetic, while the rest are simple ferromagnets. The saturation moments and Curie temperatures of all the compounds were determined. Interpretation of the structures of the compounds was made on the basis powder X-ray diffraction analysis.
