TRANSIENT AND HARMONIC RESPONSES OF A PLATE WITH AN ATTACHED VISCOELASTIC LAYER,

Abstract

The principle of elastic-viscoelastic analogy is applied to a differential equation for a two-layered plate. The results are response formulas for the transverse motion of a rectangular simply supported elastic plate with a viscoelastic damping layer attached. Expressions are given for both transient response and steady-state harmonic response. As special cases, formulas are derived for the response to step forces and for a concentrated force at the center. Numerical examples are included.
