INEQUALITY AND INSURGENCY: A STATISTICAL STUDY OF SOUTH VIETNAM,

Abstract

There appears to be two contrary theories of rebellion, each with some basis in fact: in one, peasants revolt when they are poor; in the other, when they are better off. Determining which of these opposing views is correct, or more properly, under what circumstances each is correct, is not within the scope of this paper. Instead, the author concentrates on their application to one particular and vital situation--Vietnam.
