SYNTHESIS OF POLYMERS CONTAINING FERROCENENITROGEN WITH A SYSTEM OF CONJUGATED BONDS,

Abstract

New ferrocene- and nitrogen-containing polymers- polyferrocenylnitriles- were prepared by polycondensation of amides or ammonium salts of ferrocenecarboxylic acids. The reaction was conducted in an autoclave in the absence of atmospheric oxygen and in the presence of ZnCl2 catalyst. Polyferrocenylnitrile was prepared at 170-200C from ferrocenecarboxamide, ammonium ferrocenecarboxylate, as well as from ferrocene proper. Polyferrocenyldinitrile was also prepared at 200C from 1,1'-ferrocenedicarboxamide and from diammonium 1,1'-ferrocenedicarboxylate. All the polymers were black to brown powders. Structures were confirmed by IR spectroscopy. The temperature dependence of conductivity of the polymers was exponential in character. (Author)
