CHARACTER OF THE MAGNETIZATION OF THE PERMIAN DEPOSITS IN THE VIATKA RIVER BASIN,
Abstract
The paleomagnetic character of the Upper Permian section of the Viatka River Basin was studied in the rocks. In the resulting stereographic projections the directions of natural remanent magnetization may be tentatively divided into three groups. (1) In vectors with directions clustering around the present-day magnetic pole. This clustering indicates rocks that are unstable as regards their paleomagnetism. (2) In vectors lying in the declination range 200 degrees to 230 degrees and inclination range -40 degrees to -10 degrees. (3) In vectors occupying a region elongated in the southwest direction in such a way as to bridge the gap between Groups 1 and 2. The inclination of the In vectors varies from -20 to +70 degrees and declination from 200 degrees to 360 degrees. To separate these magnetizations and to reveal their quantitative characteristics, a vector analysis of the measurement data was made. (Author)
