ON-A-PULSE FREQUENCY MEASUREMENT TECHNIQUE.

Abstract

A technique is described for measuring the carrier frequency of a radar pulse. Two cascaded hybrids with unequal delay lines inserted between the two output ports of the first hybrid and the input ports of the second provide the frequency sensing element. The power ratio between the two output ports of the second hybrid is a sensitive function of frequency. The measurement of the log of this power ratio is converted to a time difference measurement delta t by comparison with an injector signal decaying exponentially. It is shown that this delta t is linearly proportional to frequency over an octave. Included also are the schematics and descriptions of the circuits that comprise the 'log-injection' unit. (Author)
