DECOUPLED MONOPULSE EXCITATIONS FOR MAXIMUM GAIN WITH ARBITRARY SIDELOBE CONSTRAINTS,

Abstract

Monopulse antenna patterns can be conveniently obtained by phase comparing the two halves of an equiphased line source aperture. The generally unsatisfactory sidelobe performance of this type antenna has, however, seriously limited its application. A mathematical derivation and physical interpretation of line source excitations which maximize sum gain, subject to sum and difference pattern sidelobe constraints, are presented in this report. A computer program to solve for the required excitation coefficients is outlined and the Fortran IV listing is appended. Numerical examples are included for a representative number of practical cases and one of the derived aperture excitations is selected as the design basis for an experimental linear array. A discussion of the array feed design is followed by a summary of laboratory and pattern range measurement data. (Author)
