TEMPORAL AND LUMINOUS CALIBRATION OF THE NAVY FLASHBLINDNESS TRAINING DEVICE.
Abstract
Temporal and luminance measurements of the energy output of the Navy flashblindness training device developed by BioTechnology, Inc. were made by personnel of the U. S. Naval Air Development Center. The purposes of these measurements were to determine the temporal characteristics of the flash, the spectral distribution of the visible portion of the energy, the illumination at the cornea and on the retina of an observer. Plots are given in the report which show the results of these measurements. Results indicated that the illumination produced by the flash source at the corneal plane is 637.8 lumen-seconds/sq cm.
