THE SYNTHESIS OF SPECIAL FLUORINE-CONTAINING MONOMERS

Abstract

Research on the synthesis of fluorine containing olefins and diolefins is reported. Dimerization reactions aimed at producing 'dibox' compounds are of particular interest. Reactions of note were those between 1,1, 2,2-tetrafluorobutadiene 1,3 and difluorodihaloethylene followed by dihydrohalogenation with alkali to yield 2,2'-dihalo-3,3',3',4,4,4'-octafluoro bicyclobutenes. Methods of dehydrohalogenations applied to these reactions makes available a number of dienes in good yield. Codimerization of these dienes is being continued.
