THE UNIQUENESS OF CERTAIN FLOWS IN A CHANNEL WITH ARBITRARY CROSS SECTION,

Abstract

The report presents a proof of the uniqueness of a parallel three-dimensional shear flow in a channel with arbitrary cross section where the speed of the flow is not less than the highest critical speed. The investigation also includes a two-dimensional analysis in which it is assumed that while the flow velocity varies with the depth, the density also depends on the depth; and for this case the development leads to a formula which gives a good approximation to the highest critical speed.
