EXPLORATORY DEVELOPMENT MODEL MINIATURE HYDROGEN GENERATOR.

Abstract

The purpose of this contract is to design, fabricate, qualify, and deliver two Exploratory Development Models of a miniature hydrogen generator for use with hydrogen/air fuel cells in the power range of 10 to 200 watts. Hydrogen will be generated by thermally cracking JP-4. This report covers the work done during the period 1 November 1966 through 30 April 1967 on Contract No. DAAB07-67-C-0114. As a result of the experimental program conducted during this period, the design, fabrication, and testing of a disposable nickel reaction vessel meeting all of the performance requirements of the contract has been successfully completed. In addition, a conceptual design of the overall hydrogen generator system was developed and experimental qualification of the individual system components including the furnace, burner, fuel tank and controls initiated. Assembly of a breadboard model is in progress and extended testing of this unit will begin shortly. (Author)
