A REDUNDANT-FORCE METHOD FOR THE INELASTIC ANALYSIS OF MECHANICALLY FASTENED JOINTS,

Abstract

An inelastic redundant-force method for the stress and strength analysis of multifastener, multi-plate splice joints is described. The methods predict the allowable ultimate load, as well as the plate element and fastener load distribution at any desired load level. Tapered splices and mixed materials are allowed for and the plates may be discontinuous. Examples are shown for use of the method and application to a full-scale aircraft component major splice joint. The conclusion is that the method gives accurate results for failure prediction including failing load, mode of failure, and failure location. (Author)
